Special Session 4: Transmission Theory and Performance Optimization for Future Communications Enabled by RIS
"RIS使能的未来通信传输理论与性能优化"

With the development of information network systems, the demand for wireless capacity in 6G mobile communication systems is steadily increasing. Energy consumption and the challenges posed by the wireless transmission environment have become key bottlenecks limiting the application of future communication technologies. As a potential key technology in 6G communication, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) offer several advantages, including low cost, low energy consumption, and ease of deployment. By applying control signals to adjustable elements on electromagnetic units, RIS can manipulate the amplitude, phase, and polarization of incident signals, thereby creating an intelligent communication environment and providing opportunities to enhance system performance. Furthermore, with the emergence of diverse communication scenarios in 6G, the new transmission characteristics derived from the application of RIS demand further investigation. These characteristics will provide the theoretical foundation for optimizing RIS-enabled wireless communication performance. To fully exploit the potential of RIS-based wireless communication technologies, several foundational research and transmission design challenges remain to be addressed.

This special issue will bring leading researchers and developers from both industry and academia together to present their latest research on RIS-enabled transmission theory and performance optimization. Authors are invited to submit manuscripts on topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  • RIS-enabled wireless communication channel measurement and modeling
  • RIS-enabled channel modeling and simulation
  • Information theory and performance limits in RIS-enabled wireless communication
  • AI-based RIS-enabled wireless communication technologies
